Tam O'Shanter of Pennsylvania
WELCOME!
Entering through the towering pines of Tam O' Shanter, these
symbols of history take you on a journey of an enjoyable and
relaxing game of golf.
The excitement begins as you walk to the first tee and observe the
bronze plaque commemorating Sam Snead's record score of 65 in his
1949 exhibition. Bob Toski, Lew Worsham, Dutch Harrison, Betsy
Rawls, Betty Hicks, and Patty Berg have all appeared in
exhibitions at Tam O' Shanter.
As you stand on No. 1 Tee you can imagine the reactions of over
110,000 people in 1936 listening to West Middlesex native Alf
Landon announce his candidacy for President.
Tam O' Shanter is known for its lush green watered fairways and
fast bentgrass greens bordered by large native hardwoods and
pines. The beauty abounds as you see the panoramic views
overlooking the rolling wooded hills of the Shenango Valley.
During your round you will see the natural settings and animal
habitats we have preserved. These efforts along with our concern
for the environment earned Tam O' Shanter the prestigious
Environmental Steward Award along with the status of Certified
Audobon Cooperative Sanctuary.
Tam O' Shanter, considered "One of Pennsylvania's Finest Public
Courses", is a challenge to all levels of golfers. The signature
hole is the 115-yard Par 3 No. 14 known as "Death Valley" because
of the many good scores that have died in its depths. Your tee
shot is through a narrow corridor of large trees to a plateau
green. A ball falling short makes a par difficult. A tombstone
memorializes those that have fallen in its depths.
Our beautiful Clubhouse overlooks the 9th and 18th greens. Our
professional staff can accommodate small or large outings, while
our well-stocked Pro Shop can meet all of your golfing needs.
Tam O' Shanter was built in 1929 by T. Wade Walker and designed by
Emil Leoffler, then Superintendent of Oakmont Country Club.
Jack and Mary Lou Kerins purchased Tam O' Shanter in 1948 and sons
John and Rick operate the course today.
Sharon Pennsylvania, where we are located, was voted the 10th best
Golf Town in America by Golf Digest in November, 2002.
After playing at Tam O' Shanter you will realize why Golf Digest
gave our facility a 4-Star rating.
